What's a
Wattwatcher?

Rather than giving you another 'top 10 tips' to save energy, or having you keep yelling at the family to 'turn the bloody lights off', Wattwatchers decided something more practical was needed.

The result is the Wattwatcher. A smart household monitor in an easy-to-follow energy management system.

The Wattwatcher System

See - what's hidden away in your meter box.

The Wattwatcher tracks all the data that's hidden outside in your electricity meter, and presents it anywhere in the house in a way all the family will understand. Instead of waiting 3 months for an energy bill, you get to see all the electricity you're using as it happens, so you can do something about it straight away!

Discover - what things really cost to run.

The Wattwatcher is portable and wireless. Take it with you around the house and use the Stop/Watch function to discover what all those appliances are costing you. Things like 'standby' modes and what it costs to run the house when you're asleep or away are guaranteed to give some real surprises.

And what does it cost to leave the lights on? Well now you'll know.

Involve - all the family.

Many households already have a resident re-cycling champion or a carbon-cop, but enlisting the rest of the family in environmental issues can be quite difficult at times. To get everyone involved in energy savings, the Wattwatcher comes with MyGrid software that uploads all the data kept on your Wattwatcher and turns it into interesting and interactive graphics to show on your computer. In addition to setting personal alerts, times and specific tariff rates, MyGrid has several household-help programs including:
  • 'Leaktricity'
A simple, multi-level game-style program that takes you through the basic energy discovery steps, then awards you for identifying the 'why' and the 'how' of your household leaking so much electricity.

  • 'E-Week'
This program helps you set up a household 'Energy Week' to see what's possible, and who in your home needs most help to change their wasteful habits. It's fun to do and establishes a benchmark, but there's also the serious side of saving energy.

  • 'House-on-a-Diet'
House-on-a-Diet is a simple planning and goal-setting tool which takes into account your household lifestyle, and shows how to stick to the habits that really make a difference. Plug the Wattwatcher in anytime to track your progress or update your goals.

Control - your energy bills

As you start taking control of your energy bills, you may want to become a more advanced user. MyGrid software has a unique 'drill-down-and-display' feature to access all data from minutes to years, with almost unlimited views for trend and comparison analysis. If you're connected to the internet all the better, as you will automatically be upgraded with MyGrid software programs, and receive new applications and tools to try.

Since the Wattwatcher records your energy use every second in very fine measurements, it's up to you to select the tools you need, and how general or detailed your control should be.
