All About The Data
Wattwatchers metering devices provide high resolution energy metrics with granularity at 5 second and 5 minute intervals, and latency around 5 to 10 seconds.
The 5-minute or 'long energy' data is fully logged inside the devices for up to 3 months, protecting against data loss in the case of communications interruptions, and is stored in the Cloud as the long-term record.
The 5 second or 'short energy' data allows near real-time data visualisation on sophisticated presentation applications such as that developed in Australia by our partner GridAnalytics by Acresta (see right).
In practical terms, the streaming data is 'functionally real time' to observe, analyse and control most energy flows at circuit-level, and to provide software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications based on Real Time Data.
The timing of data packets can be set (and changed) to meet specific client needs e.g. near real-time frequency versus minimising cost of data transmissions. For example, unless otherwise specified by clients, 3G devices are configured to transmit every 30 seconds rather than 5 seconds, reducing data volumes from about 120MB a month for 3-meter WiFi devices to 20MB a month. This reduces the higher charges for 3G data plans when compared to piggybacking on existing wireless broadband.
